New patients will also be asked to complete a simple health questionnaire and under some circumstances may be asked to attend an appointment with the nurse.

Our practice

Fairfield Surgery is an excellent family practice. We aim to treat all our patients promptly, courteously and in complete confidence.

As well as specific practice details such as opening hours and how to register, you’ll find there’s a wealth of useful pages covering a wide range of health issues along with links to other relevant medical organisations.

Urgent Appointments

Urgent appointments can be made by telephone and at the reception desk. Every effort will be made for you to be seen by a Doctor of your choice at a time that is convenient to you.

If you are more than 10 minutes late for your booked appointment, you will not be seen and will have to make another appointment.

Cancellations

Appointments can be cancelled via telephone or by responding to the text message reminder sent by the practice if the patient has consented to text messages via a mobile

If you’re unable to keep your appointment, please give us as much notice as possible so that your appointment can be offered to someone else.

Health advice and self-help

Flu vaccinations

Getting vaccinated for the flu can reduce the risk of developing a serious illness.

Feel free to ask us about getting a flu shot to help protect your health.

Self-help and self-care

On occasion a visit to the surgery isn’t needed and a pharmacy may be sufficient.

It may be more suitable, and more convenient, to treat yourself at home.

Online symptom checker

A user-friendly, online symptom checker has been developed by NHS 111, which can assist in identifying and treating minor conditions without requiring an appointment with a GP and advise when it may be necessary to seek further medical advice.

We encourage you to check it out and explore potential treatment options.

Online services

Online admin forms

Patients can carry out simple admin tasks through our website.

Common illnesses

There are many conditions that frequently occur and are not serious. In most cases you can administer self-care and/or visit your local pharmacy.

How to treat certain common illnesses can be found on this link

Reviews and procedures

We continually carry our reviews and procedures in our surgery, in the aim of supporting our patient’s ongoing health and wellbeing.

Paid private services

Some of the services we provide are not covered under our contract with the NHS which means there will be charge attached. Examples include the following:

  • Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
  • Insurance claim forms
  • Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
  • Private sick notes
  • Vaccination information
  • Letters of support

We base our fees on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.

Hospital waiting times.

Waiting times for hospital treatment may vary depending on the health board and the condition being treated. To determine the waiting times that may apply to you, please enquire with us.
